Shenzhen-based robotics company WDC (Shenzhen Wandechang Innovation Intelligence Co., Ltd.) has been awarded the 2026 Red Dot Award: Product Design for its Bearbot intelligent dietary delivery robot. WDC founder and chairman Zou Yuanhua attended the award ceremony in Essen, Germany to accept the honor in person.

Design that solves real problems

The Red Dot Award, established in 1955 in Germany, is one of the world's three most prestigious design competitions, alongside Germany's iF Design Award and the U.S. IDEA Award. Receiving this recognition means a product has met the highest international benchmarks in innovation, functionality, aesthetic quality, and ergonomics.

"With its thoughtful bionic design and seamless integration of advanced robotics, the Bearbot demonstrates how industrial design can transform a utilitarian delivery machine into a welcome presence in sensitive environments like hospitals and hotels," noted the Red Dot jury.

The Bearbot features a bear-inspired exterior that deliberately moves away from the sterile, machine-like aesthetics common in commercial service robots. Its rounded silhouette, balanced proportions, and restrained color palette were designed to make patients, diners, and hotel guests feel at ease — not on guard — when the robot enters their space.

Beneath the friendly exterior lies a purpose-built delivery system: WDC's proprietary SLAM-based navigation (no floor markers or ceiling modifications required), a multi-sensor fusion stack combining LiDAR with dual structured-light cameras, and an independent suspension system that keeps meals and medications stable even on uneven surfaces. The robot navigates corridors as narrow as 70 centimeters, switches between four operating modes on the fly, and comes in a sealed IP-grade variant for hospital environments where hygiene and cross-contamination control are critical.

A second Red Dot, not a second chance

WDC's design philosophy — integrating industrial designers with algorithm engineers from day one of product definition — is embedded in the company's 200-person, 60% R&D engineering team. Three international academicians serve as chief scientists, and joint labs with four leading universities feed a pipeline of over 120 patents. The company is backed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and counts Huawei and Toyota among its partners.

To date, WDC robots have been deployed in more than 30 countries across healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and elderly care.

"We don't design robots to look good in a showroom," said chairman Zou Yuanhua at the award ceremony. "We design them to do a real job in real places — and to be trusted by the people they serve. The Red Dot jury validated that approach."
